Reproduction of an antique map of Menorca, dated to 1760 and made as a copper engraving by Jacques Nicolas Bellin, chief cartographer of the French Military Navy and first Ingénieur of the Marine of the Deposit of maps and plans of the Navy (the French hydrographic office), he was appointed hydrographic officer to the king of France.

Bellin produced a large number of charts and maps and a series of sea atlases from around the world. These maps gained fame and respect throughout Europe to the point that they were reissued throughout the 18th century and even in the following century.

Bellin also produced smaller maps such as the Petit 1764 Atlas Maritime containing 580 finely detailed miniatures.​
